Riverhead Slope Rehabilitation Design-Build – Toronto & Region Conservation Auth.

Project Description

Client: Toronto and Region Conservation Authority

The TRCA’s Riverhead Slope Stabilization Design-Build Project involved the stabilization of a 110 km long slope located on Riverhead Drive. This became necessary due to an extreme rainfall event that caused moderate to severe erosion activity.

Accardi Schaeffers was responsible for preparing various slope rehabilitation configurations using Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) Retaining Wall systems to meet TRCA’s various project parameters. In addition, Accardi Schaeffers determined which configuration best met TRCA’s requirements by conducting a feasibility assessment using an evaluation system that was developed based on the client’s preferences. Along with the client’ s preferences, Accardi Schaeffers took into consideration drainage issues along with erosion and sediment controls and proposed a solution involving the use of tiered MSE Walls using Maccaferri’s Terramesh Slope System which containing a vegetated face that would allow the system to blend into the existing environment.
