The Cast Iron Watermain Replacement Program was divided into two areas: the Southdale Drive Area (2021 Design/ 2022 CA/SI) and the Drakefield Road Area (2022 Design/ 2023 CA/SI). The project included approximately 5,800 meters of watermain replacement and upsizing of 13 streets. The watermain replacement involved replacing all substandard service connections from the watermain to the property line, including curb stops and water boxes, as well as the replacement of existing valves and valve chambers, fire hydrants and connections to existing watermains and/or chambers within the project limits. The road rehabilitation works included trench, driveway, sidewalk and curb repairs. Additionally, Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) was designed in areas where construction mobility was limited. Certain sections of the project, mainly on Bakerdale Drive and Southdale Drive, closer to the Drakefield Drive connection, were located within environmentally sensitive areas. These sections were regulated under TRCA and required additional attention and coordination to ensure that we avoided disturbing this area during construction.
